Thuria and Beyond
The White Walkers are a mythological race mentioned in ancient legends and stories of the Vanir and Aesir. According to the oral tradition of these Nordhem peoples, the White Walkers have descended into the lands of men from the farthest north, killing all in their paths and reanimating the dead as wights to kill the living at their command. The White Walkers worship Tyr, the huge demonic venerated by the Aesir and Vanir as the God of War.
When our campaign starts in 1000 YT, belief in the existence of the White Walkers is waning across the Lands of the Linnorm Kings because they have not attacked the Nordhem people for hundreds of years:
“Long ago, there came a night that lasted a generation. Linnorm Kings froze to death in their great halls, same as lesser clans in their little camps; and women smothered their babies rather than see them starve, and wept, and felt the tears freeze on their cheeks… In that darkness the White Walkers came for the first time. They swept through Vanahem and Asgurd, riding their dead horses, hunting with their packs of pale monsters big as hounds. Then came to War for the Dawn. Old enemies fought side by side to drive the White Walkers back to the Lands of Always Winter.”
Appearance-wise, the White Walkers will be as per the creatures from Game of Thrones. We will need to work out AD&D stats, abilities etc.
White Walkers possess magical powers related to ice and cold. Their arrival is usually accompanied by blizzards and the dropping of temperatures. They can also freeze anything they touch. White Walkers also have superhuman strength. The White Walkers wield swords and spears made from unique ice crystals.
